The Bundeswehr’s official supply lists catalogue many
different clocks used in ship communications systems. The producers’ names
are coded and can only revealed from time to time when the clocks are decommissioned
and find their way on to the civilian market. The company ‘Gerhard D. Wempe’
of Hamburg, supplied the military with a ships’-clock. This clock had an
8-day, 11 jewel movement, with brass housing and a dial face with red radio-silence
sectors. Buerk and Junghans produced a similar ships’-clock, with
an 8-day, 7 jewel movement. Its housing was waterproofed and the dial face
had red radio sectors.
