Beschreibung: Der Sonnenkompass von C. Plath, Hamburg ist ein besonders interessantes Instrument, welches auf der Funktion einer Uhr beruht: Da der normale magnetische Kompass bei den Ablenkungen durch hohe Feldstärken in Hochgeschwindigkeits-Flugzeugen deutliche Fehler produziert, wurde der Sonnenkompaß von der Navigations-Instrumenten-Firma C. Plath in Hamburg konstruiert. Die eingebaute Uhr entspricht dem Junghans Kaliber J30D oder E mit 24 Stunden Umlauf. Der Stundenzeiger ist durch eine Plexiglas-Peileinrichtung ersetzt. Einsatz: Der Sonnenkompaß wurde für die Kalibrierung der Bord-Kompasse in Jägern, insbesondere aber im ersten Düsen-Kampfflugzeug Me 262 (Foto) genutzt. Eine andere Halterung dieses Instrumentes mit unterer Befestigung und Schraubklemme (linkes Bild) wurde in Fahrzeugen des Afrika-Korps von Generalfeldmarschall Rommel benutzt. Die Position der Sonne wurde als Referenz genutzt. Der Gang der Sonne wurde dadurch berücksichtigt, dass diese Referenz kontinuierlich durch einen eingebauten Uhrwerk-Mechanismus korrigiert wurde. Nach der Einstellung der geographischen Koordinaten sowie der genauen Zeit zeigte das Instrument die wahre Richtung an.	Description: The Sun Compass of the well known company C. Plath, Hamburg is a verx special instrument, which uses the funczion of a clock movement: Because the normal magnetic compass produces high inaccuracies by the disturbing nmagnetic field especially in highspeed aircrafts, the sun compass was developped by the manufacturer of navigation instruments C. Plath in Hamburg. The incorporated clock movement is the Junghans cal. J30D or E with 24 hour indication. The hour hand is replaced by a plastic visor. Application: The sun compass was used for the calibration of the dashboard compasses in fighters especially the first jet fighters Me 262 (foto). A different handle of this instrument (foto left) was used in carriers of the Afrika-Korps of Generalfeldmarschall Rommel 1942 in Northern Africa. The position of tthe sun was used as a reference. The move of the sun was considered by the continously moving mecanism of the clock. After tuning of the geographic coordinates and the exact time, the compass was showing the correct directions.
